Suggest Medication For Addison S Disease
Hi, and thanks for any help. My mother was diagnosed with Addison s disease 15 years ago. For some reason her PCP has been prescribing her hydrocortisone and synthroid. Her PCP dropped her and she doesn t have another one yet. Her indocranolgist is refusing to write these prescriptions for her. Shouldn t he be the one that should be writing these to begin with? He is the one she sees for her Addison s. Thank you for your help and time. David

Addison's disease is a disorder that occurs when your body produces insufficient amounts of certain hormones produced by your adrenal glands.Treatment for Addison's disease involves taking hormones to replace the insufficient amounts being made by your adrenal glands.This is usually achieved with oral corticosteroid like hydrocortisone or injectable corticosteroids.
Synthroid is used to treat hypothyroidism, treat or prevent goitre. Being on this drugs suggest she may also have a thyroid pathology.
These are drugs that are bought with medical prescription.I will suggest you see her PCP to find out the reason for the drop and make thing out with him.He knows her better and follow up will be easier if he is still the one to manage her.If her Endocrinologist refuses to write the drugs, he will reevaluate her and prescribe alternatives depending on the new findings.Try to get their reasons.They will not turn their backs on you if you meet them as the ethics of the profession kick against such.You may as well see another Doctor for evaluation, management and subsequent follow-up.
