Hello!
Thank you for asking on HCM!
Regarding your concern, I would say that you can take
imitrex during every attack of migraine.
Use Imitrex as soon as you notice headache symptoms, or after an attack has already begun.
After taking a tablet: If your headache does not completely go away, or goes away and comes back, take a second tablet two (2) hours after the first. Do not take more than 200 mg of imitrex oral tablets in 24 hours.
In this situation, when you have frequent attacks I would recommend you to start on a preventive therapy, to help reduce the frequence and severity of migraine attacks.
I would not recommend to take imitrex or other painkillers too frequently. Overuse of
migraine headache medicine can actually make your
headaches worse.
So I would recommend to start therapy with amytriptiline or
topiramate, if there are no contraindications of these drugs for you.
Hope to have been helpful!
Greetings! Dr. Aida
