My wife is suffering from hepatitis b from august 10. The doctor suggested synoliv and rehaptine and later texzyme . Polybion syrup and liv 52Hb. Initially bilirubin is 10 and sgot sgpt are in between 2100 -2200. After three weeks the bilirubin comes down to 4.3 and sgot and sgpt in between 450 to 650. Quite surprisingly last week test result showed that biliru on is 10 again , however sgot and sgpt remain in between 450-650. After consulting a gastroenterologist he changed the medicine and gave udiliv 300 and essential -l with duphalak. He also suggested some tests like HbeAg, hbv DNA quantitative along with, usg and lft. My question is whether the medicines prescribed gasto. Doc will cure my wife or not? Can it be cured in home?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
I have gone through your question and understand your concern. The condition can be taken care of at home by taken medication prescribed on time and following up with treating doctor as suggested.
The drugs prescribed by gastroenterologist will help the liver heal and only after undergoing the diagnostic test the course of treatment can be altered. Only the test results will give an insight of liver and extent of damage caused by virus along with need to hospitalization. In some cases patients with extensive liver damage may even require a liver transplantation.
Hope your concern is answered. Thank you.
