Hello there,
Thank you for your question.
Diet and exercise play a major role in blood sugar control. Now that you have been started on medical treatment with Glimisave M1 take it as prescribed. Once sugars are under control the doses can be gradually reduced but that has to be monitored. You should not discontinue the medicine without prior consent with your diabetologist. If you do then blood sugar will start rising again.
Diet in diabetes is mainly about caloric balance. If you eat rice or wheat it wont make a big difference but the quantity will determine your blood sugar levels. Try to reduce carbohydrate content to 75% of what you are eating now. Each meal take a salad serving. Increase intake of fresh vegetables and pulses. Split your meals into 5-6 times per day. SO that each time you eat less but you eat frequently. Avoid all simple sugars and juices. These are some tips, you can visit a dietician who can take a detail history of your current diet and based on that prescribe you a format.
Do include some form of exercise everyday (if heart condition allows).
Hope this helps.
Take care.

Diabetologist Dr. Niranjan G's  Response
Dear friend, greetings from HCM... happy to help you ... your HbA1c is too high it should be less than 6.5 ideally ... you are on a right medication to start with please continue with that ...
But i am afraid you can NEVER stop the medications ... you can always keep the dose of drugs under control and sugar levels too.
please remember that lifestyle changes are very important in case of diabetes ..
you should be committed life long to be healthy ...
first stay away from all the fast / processed / and fried food stuffs .. divide your meal in to 4-5 parts per day whenever you feel hungry.. add more of fiber rich food stuffs like green leafy vegetables, raw fruits.. (not juices), eat very less of carbohydrates (rice) avoid sugar completely.. take Millets and breads prepared out of it like ragi.. ragi is a very good source of calcium too...do take more of proteins ... like egg white... say no to oils and cholesterol rich food stuffs ... u can take fish (boiled) but chicken (without skin) rarely...sir, based on this you prepare your diet chart and strictly follow it ..Do exercise .. walk at least half an hour to one hour a day ... try and practice yoga and pranayama ... some aasanas are very easy to practice and also beneficial. Quit smoking and reduce your alcohol intake. Moreover, beet root juice (inorganic nitrate), olive leaves, garlic, termeric, tamarind also have proven benefits. if u can follow these (have to!!) you can definitely see difference yourself
