Hi Have Grade 3 to 4 chondromalacia within the patellofemoral joint. I am 53 years old, 163 cm, 62 ks and a cyclist. I enjoy road racing. What exercises should I do to get my muscles strenghtened and flexiablity. Have been resting it while waiting for results and now cycling again.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Considering your age, medical condition and activity, I would suggest stretches and cardio as your type of exercise. Swimming is the best form of cardio for you as it does not strain your joints. Consult a physiotherapist to learn few exercises to strengthen your hamstrings and quadriceps. Do cycling in moderation, take adequate rest, keep yourself hydrated, and have a balanced diet. Consult an orthopedician if you have any form of distress.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Deepti Shivakumar
