Suggest Effective Treatment For Recurrent Stiff Neck

I have had a stiff neck for 4 months now. I have tried every home remedy from hot and cold packs to advil and ben gay. These help but it never goes away. I went to my doctor, she gave me a weeks worth of muscle relaxers, they also helped a little but the stiff neck persists. She did not take any x-rays or tests. she believes that I am just under a lot of stress. What would you suggest I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
If you are elderly then this might be due to some degenerative changes in your cervical spines producing osteo-artheritis giving rise nerve root pain and muscle stiffness.
Go for x-ray cervical region.
Physiotherapy, short way diathermy will be helpful.
Ok and take care.
I find this answer helpful
