Suggest Effective Treatment For Anemia
Dear sir,there is a patient,female ,age 48 years old,known case of chronic liver disease due to hepatitis C,she has taken tab sovaldi 400 mg,with ribavirin 800mg for 5 months,she has become anemic HB,8 0mg/dl,,once she also suffered ascites due to CLD.What is best step to manage anaemia.she is also diabetic pt,kidneys are normal,Renal status normal.

Anemia is a common problem in patients with chronic liver disease and is usually of diverse etiologies.The causes of anemia may be acute or chronic gastrointestinal hemorrhage and hypersplenism secondary to portal hypertension which is a common problem with patients with chronic liver disease.Ribavirin/sodalvi cause hemolysis(destruction of red blood cells) and may explain anemia.Medication induced anemia could be managed by either reducing the dose or discontinuing the use of the drug.
I will suggest you see Your Gastro-enterologist to re-evaluate the dose of your treatment or exploit other treatment options if all the other causes of anemia in people with chronic liver disease listed above have been eliminated.If any cause identified, the cause should be managed.
