Suggest Dosage For Ashwagandha While Suffering From Stress And Excess Weight Gain

My doctor suggested I take ashwagandha for stress and possible weight reduction. What would be the appropriate amount to take, and when should it be taken - I bought 600 mg. and it says to take 2x daily. Should these be divided up? Should it be taken on an empty stomach? Should it be taken day or night?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Ashwagandha is a health-promoting herb.

Its dosage is 300 to 1,200 mg in 2 or 3 divided doses and has to be taken with meals. It can be boiled with water to make decoction and taken or mixed with milk, buttermilk or honey and consumed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S
