Welcome to HCM,
First, you say she has "high blood", do you mean high blood pressure? The low
hemoglobin can be from low iron, low B12, low
folic acid, low copper and/or low protein. Low blood pressure may also result from
anemia as well as inactivity or cardiac factors.
How low is the heartbeat? Lower than 60 beats per minute? The anemia with associated
fatigue may be keeping her activity low which may lower
heart rate as well.
Foods - Foods high in B12 such as meat (soft enough for her chewing abilities) are needed. Focus on more protein, fish, greens, fresh fruit and milk products with complex carbohydrates (fiber); adequate fluids.
High iron foods are in fortified cereals and meats, molasses, spinach. Iron is better absorbed when taken with fresh fruit.
If appetite is low adding a supplemental beverage may be used such as Instant breakfast mixes, canned high protein beverages as snacks). Small, frequent meals are generally better accepted by the older crowd. They also enjoy soups - chicken, lentil, etc are good choices.
I have pointed out some general guidelines. Feel free to visit me directly for nutritional teaching. Regards, Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
