Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM. I can understand your concern. Head injury is of two type mild and dangerous. The dangerous head injury can cause brain damage. We have differentiate between two. There are few signs which suggest dangerous head injury like : vomiting : persistent headache not responding topic killers : fits : onset of new focal deficit : loss of consciousness for more than 5 minutes : bleed through nose/ear/throat : dizziness with vertigo, confusion, sleepiness As the child is grunting, not opening eyes and not responding properly, it could be dangerous head injury. The doctor will evaluate him and advise CT head to rule out fracture or bleed or edema in brain. The fracture is usually managed by medical treatment while bleed or edema may require surgery to relieve pressure in brain.
