Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Please let me know his age, and what symptoms he is having. It's not always that one is going to end with hole in a heart. It depends upon stage of illness, what damage it has done. I guess he must have visited a cardiologist and echo and other test must have been done. If there is small hole, it can be closed with minor surgery, if large then it needs open surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Deepti Shivakumar
