Hello I am 20 and have never been diagnosed but I believe I have bulimia. It started when I was about 16 I would eat large amounts of food then imediately become overwhelm by guilt and try to rid my body of the food I consumed. It has been an on again off again struggle and unfortunately it is in the on again phase... I just binged and purged about 30 minutes ago and now feel etremely tired and unusually dizzy and light headed. Should I just go lay down and sleep or what?
Hello and welcome to HCM, The symptoms that you have mentioned are suggestive of bulimia. Besides the habit of purging and vomiting after consumption of food, bulimia is also associated with deficiency of various vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. Bulimia is often associated with regurgitation of gastric contents so the acid damages the teeth and oral mucosa too. The treatment of bulimia is of course to stop the habit of binge eating and to have small divided meals. This will control the habit of purging and vomiting. However, I guess it will be difficult to break the habit. You need behavioral therapy to control this habit. Behavioural therapy is given by psychiatrist and psychologist. You need to refer them to get rid of this habit.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
