Suggest Cause For Constant Rise In FBS In Elderly Diabetic Woman
hello dr. my grandmother 72yr old is diabetic for over 15years and had been on metformin for long with uncontrolled blood sugar. recently was changed to gemer 2 (glimepiride 2mg metformin 500mg) twice daily. still FBG is high 12-13mmol/L. what do you suggest Dr.
Dear friend i can understand your concern. in my opinion shifting an elderly patient from metformin to gemer is not a good move.most of elderly patients are prone for hypoglycemia
In this age hypoglycemia can be very fatal some times.
in my opinion she can be kept on some milder medications like januvia or galvus
Having good blood sugar is not the only treatment in diabetes we need to give good quality of life also.
the new research like ADVANCE trial is telling that aggressive control of diabetes is bad in elderly and will give fatal out come.
change of medication can be titrated in a slower rate I suppose I have given the desired response if you have any other query please write back. Otherwise please accept & rate my answer. I will appreciate your review about my answer. Best Regards. Dr Vamsi Krishna Consultant Diabetologist
