Suggest Blood Tests Available To Assess Risk Of Developing Diabetes

Hello Doctor, Recently I came across this RISC test to evaluate the risk of developing Diabetes in the future. Though every year I get my routine check up done which includes Sugar (onlyFasting) , Lipids, KFT and LFT and Urine routine. The latest(a month back) Sugar fasting was 95. I am also on thyroid medication and taking Eltroxcin 125 mcg. My Elder brother aged 43 is also suffering from Hypo thyroid and diabetes for last 7-8 years though my parents don t have either of these diorders. Just need your Opinion about this RISC test, being a costly affair should I need to undertake this test or there are alternate blood tests available to assess the risk of developing Diabetes in future. If RISC is a better option what are additional advantages.

Diabetologist 's  Response
Hi there
Dear sir/madam I understand your concern.
As far as your fasting sugar is concern its very good.
there is no need for RISC test to evaluate risk of diabetes because there are much validated and cost effective test available.
Since you are having a first degree relative with diabetes it suggestable to check the diabetic risk once in a year as per latest diabetes guidelines.
i suggest you some test which are not costly and are gold standards in diabetes
pls send me the reports of
1.glucose tolerance test with 75 gms glucose
2,your age, height weight and waist circumference
3.Hba1c report
with this reports its possible to calculate your risk
I suppose I have given the desired response if you have any other query please write back.
Otherwise please accept & rate my answer. I will appreciate your review about my answer.
Best Regards.
