Suggest Better Medications For Thyroid Related Symptoms

I ve had an under active thyroid since 1981 and but for all of the years since except the last 5 have been OK. My medications has varied quite dramatically the last few years and for the last year I ve had a return of all my symptoms, the worst being extreme tiredness/Fatigue. A recent test shows that the function isn t quite what it should be but my GP thinks I should remain on 200 micrograms of Levothyroxine for now. I m utterly depressed about it as I feel so awful and have little or mo energy. I feel weepy all the time and have difficulty waking up in the mornings. I also feel pretty alone at the moment as no one in the family seems to understand why I m so tired. Can you offer any help? Thank you.

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello,
I carefully have gone through your report and can understand your concerns.
First I would say that 200 mcg of levothyroxine is not a low dose and to check if it is correct you need to do a TSH level 6 weeks after the last change of the dose.
Anyway the symptoms you report may suggest another pathology that must be excluded such as: A Vitamine D deficiency, a low adrenal function, anemia ect.
So if you were a patient at my clinic a would suggest:

-Vit D 25 Oh level
-Cortisol level at 8 a.m
-Full blood count
-TSH level
-Electrolytes

I am opened for further suggestions after you have a response of the further exams.

Kind regards,
Dr.M.Guni
