Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello !
Your grandfather appears to taking Nise-MR on an `as required ' basis. Has he ever experienced any untoward effect while taking it ? It appears to work for him(that's why he has continued taking it for so long). While it is true that Nise MR has side effects it is equally true that any other medication will also have its own set of possible adverse effects.
In my opinion a medicine shown to be effective while not having any discernible side effect should not be discontinued.
There are several painkillers available for example Voveran,Dolo-650 etc. which have proven efficacy and could be used and then assessed for their efficacy.
Hope this helped
All the best!
