Suggest Alternative Medication For Clindamycin

I had three teeth exacted last Tuesday. I went to my regular dentist today and found that I have an infection in the area of one of the exactions. He prescribed Clindamycin which I can not take because of reactions such as hives and skin rash. The oral surgeon that did the exactions is not available until Friday. is there any type of medicine I can safely use until I am able to see the oral surgeon?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain in case if you have an infection at the site of extraction and for which you are being examined by an oral surgeon there is a possibility that there has been left out root piece that is leading to recurring infection and for which you are advised clindamycin..

In case if you are allergic to Clindamycin then you can avoid taking the same and you can take other antibiotics like Amoxicillin or Cephalexin for reducing infection..
You can also take anti-inflammatory medicine like Ibuprofen..
Do warm saline gargles..

Once the consultation is done with Oral surgeon an x ray can help in proper diagnosis and if there is left over root piece removal of same can relieve..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
