Suggest Alternative For Tylenol

My 6.5 month old baby was diagnosed with an ear infection and strep throat & started amoxicillin on Tuesday. Weds afternoon he developed a 103 degree fever. I gave him tylenol and took him to urgent care but they said it takes about 48 hours for the antibiotic to start working. He was much better & fever-free Thurs-Friday, but tonight he had a 101.3 fever. I gave him some tylenol and put him to bed. I checked on him about 5 hours later and he's burning up. Fever at 101.6, so I gave him infant advil. What should I do?

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.

Fever of three days without any localizing signs in this age group is not dangerous. That too a paediatrician has seen and assured you. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If she is active and playing around when there is no fever, you need not worry. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active. Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly that too only if fever is more than 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.

Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.
