Suggest Alternate Medication For Anxiety

My 92 y/o mother recently had a stroke. She now has periods of agitation where she is given terazodone, however, this makes her sleepy and unresponsive the next day. I am looking for an alternative to this medication that will ease her anxiety, but not sedate her.

She is 92 and had attack of stroke. She is having restlessness and agitation. Trazodon is antidepressant that is known to cause sedation. If the drug is making her sleepy then there are other options available. Agitation and personality change are common complications of stroke. Medicines like Sertraline can be used. The drug doesn't cause much sedation and help to control anxiety and restlessness. Sertraline is safe to use in elderly and it can be used in patients with stroke also.

I would advise you to consult her psychiatrist for prescription of this drug.
