General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi , thanks for using healthcaremagic

Irregular periods can be very irritating.

There are different possible causes and your doctor may want to consider finding the specific cause then treating that cause.

Possible causes are: (a) emotional stress or illness
(b) abnormal levels of thyroid hormone
(c)physical illness
(d) high levels of prolactin hormone
(e)polycystic ovarian syndrome
(f)inadequate diet or high level of physical activity

Blood tests for hormone levels ( fsh, lh, thyroid hormone, prolactin hormone, testosterone) and imaging such as ultrasound would be helpful to find the cause.

I hope this helps
