Suggest A Remedy For Depression And Cutting Oneself

Hi i was diagnosed with depression recently by the local GP. Recently i have been cutting myself and scraping myself, it feels like it is something i need to do, to cope with things that are going on at the moment.... What should i do? it is something that i can't help even when i do want to stop.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

The symptoms like cutting self or scraping yourself could occur due to some underlying anxiety. You already have depression. I would advise you to consult a good Psychiatrist for proper opinion. Depression and anxiety both can be treated with SSRI and SNRI drugs. SSRI commonly used for anxiety are Escitalopram, Sertraline, Paroxetine, Fluoxetine. Fluoxetine and Paroxetine are particularly useful in controlling impulsive behaviour of cutting and scrapping.
Behavior therapy sessions and thought stop technique to decrease the impulsive behaviour are also very useful.

Consult a psychiatrist for proper treatment.

Thanks
