Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking hydrocodone acetaminophen once a day at breakfast time & once a day at bedtime.I am in quite a lot of pain most of the time so II've been taking 2 Tylenol & 1 600 mg ibuprophen at 11 AM or noon, & usually again at 4 or 5 PM,for handling the pain through the day. Please suggest some help.
Hi Marian. Thanks for your query in HCM. From the details provided by you, it seems that you are taking pain killers at a slightly higher dose. Hydrocodone+acetaminophone, twice daily, is good enough to control moderate pain. If needed, you can take another tablet of tylenol as needed, not exceeding 3 tablets a day. Ibuprofen has some side effects which may be troublesome or even serious in some patients, if taken for a long time. Hence, I strongly suggest you to consult a physician for the evaluation of the cause of your pain and get it treated. That's the solution. Please do not take over the counter pain killers for prolonged periods without prescription. Hope this helps.
