i have a 2 year old son, who has had a cough for the past 3-4 days along with a runny noise and recently started loosing his voice. he wakes in the night screaming but is easily settled with someones presence. im starting to worry a little should i take him to the doctor

Hello. Thank you for your question. In patients of this age who have these symptoms, it is usually ok to wait 2-3 days before having them examined. After that, it's a good idea to be seen. Though the most likely diagnosis is a harmless viral infection, other possibilities (ie: asthma, bacterial infection) could be the cause. As you are on day #4, I recommend consulting with your doctor so the correct diagnosis can be made and the appropriate treatment plan implemented.
