Hi, excuse my grammar/spelling mistake and hope you get my inquiry.. i have a cousin that is suffering from thyroids, he was given zantac as part of his medication, due to depression that his life and health condition didn t improve he decided to cut the medications without getting back to his doctors, now he seriously lost weight drastically, severe weakness till the level his needs the support of one arm to lift the other arm, he can t eat much i guess his appetite went down more than 3/4 till he level he can t complete one cheese sandwich. honestly we live in a country that has a very low standard doctors in most parts of it so i am seeking an advise and possibilities of what might have gone wrong with him as the doctor in here said it is because he cut on the zantac but they didn t give him anything or do anything to make him recover from such a rebound. his condition is getting worse by the day and his moral, self-esteem are almost to zero and very depressed he keeps himself looked in a house. we need your help to get the proper or possible illness and laboratory tests needed to seek a consult help outside our country

Hi.Thanks for your query on HCM.
Zantac 150mg(ranitidine) given to treat acidity. This has nothing to do with your thyroids.Since your cousin has loss of weight/appetite and weakness he must be having high thyroid levels.
He requires a hormonal check(thyroid profile) and according the cause of hyperthyroidism can be treated (most likely by medication/surgery (less often).
Donot get panic and encourage your cousin that he will be alright and thyroid disorders are quite common.
I suggest you to meet a Physician in place our choice and get him properly evaluated & treated.
Hope this helps.Take care.
