Hello Vickey. Most headaches are symptoms of other underlying problems. Your description could be attributed to a common problem called Migraines. Migraines have various etiological factors and in some patients, it is difficult to find the cause. Though they are more common in women than in men due to the constant changes taking place in their body, it is seen in many men as well.

Most common cause of migraine headaches could be stress, sleep deprivation, long gaps between meals(bad diet), high/low temperatures, etc.

I would advice to start with a mild tablet that would predominantly cure any headache and then find a link between the cause and your headache to establish the diagnosis.

You should also learn about the various symptoms of a migraine headache. It starts with a pre-migraine Aura, in which there are some times black spots in your vision, photo sensitivity and irritation to noise. This is a mild headache and is the best time to take your medication and rest, as it is followed by the main headache, which is a migraine.

Once you establish the diagnosis with the help of the information I have provided, I could help you on managing the migraine.
