Suffering From Reversed Type 2 Diabetics And Vertigo
Hi. I am a type 2 Diabetic. Well, actually I am a reversed Type 2 Diabetic. I was Diagnosed in Feb. of 13 and by July of 13, I lost 37 pounds, and stabilized my A1c to a 5.7 and still holding that number to this day. I did it on my own with no Meds. :) I have no high Blood Pressure very normal Cholesterol and no other problems from Diabetes. However, I do get these weird dizzy spells at random and only every couple of months or so. And only since I was Diagnosed and got my sugars back to normal. I have asked and asked and no one can seem to tell me why. I was told that it could be that I had to much sugars on my inner ears and it caused Vertigo and I need to see an Ear specialist. I don t have any heart problems to date that I am aware of either. I have wore a heart monitor to see if it was that. I have also had other Diabetics tell me that they sometimes experience this as well. But don t know why either. I would really like to know if it is Diabetes related and something I need to be even more concerned about or not. Can you maybe shed some light for me?

Since your diabetes is so well controlled, the episodes are unlikely to be related.
Dizziness and vertigo are most commonly related to the inner ear. The inner conditions that cause this symptom are: (1) BPPV - this stands for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, the episodes last a few seconds and occur with certain positions
(2) meniere's disease- these episodes lasts minutes to hours and associated with hearing loss and tinnitus
(3)vestibular neuronitis- episodes lasts for hours
In your case, where the episodes are intermittent and there are no associated symptoms, it may be BPPV but you should consider visiting an ENT doctor for assessment.
