I am a viet nam vet who suffers from peripheral neuropathy in my feet, legs,n left hand.Conductive studies completed in 7/2006 confirmed advanced poly neuropathy at which time I was put on 5mg methadone every 1 tab every 8hrs with 1 tab 5mg oxycodone x 4 as needed for break-through pain. Two years ago the methadone was s.to 10mg tabs every 8hrs.Two weeks ago I weened myself off of both drugs. Today my VA Doctor replaced them with morphine sulfate 15mg tab sa twice daily for pain. Is this the proper drug protocol for my disease?
Hello, Although your doctor was giving opiates earlier and morphine now,the basic protocol which has been approved by US FDA for treatment of peripheral neuropathy is 1... Use of antidepressant like DULOXETINE 2..... Use of anticonvulsants like PREGABLIN 3... Use of long acting opiate like TAPENTADOL ER. It is definitely a big problem treating pains associated with peripheral neuropathy and patients really have to suffer on this account. There are however other treatments like ( TENS ) where treatment is done by electric nerve simulations, which can be tried by you. Discuss with your doctor regarding This. Thanks
