Suffering From Irritable Bowel Syndrome(IBS). Prescribed Serlift And Bactiv. Is This Right Medication?
I am suffering from irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) for about two year. recently a general physician prescribed to take serlift 25 and bactiv for a year. I do not lead a very stressful life but some issues gets attention at times when i suffer a lot from IBS. rest of the time I am fine.Is this a right medication. is there any need to continue with neuro- medicine?
It is ok to take Serlift for IBS, gastroenerologists usually prescribe it but bactiv which is an antibiotic (amoxycillin + clauvulanic acid) should be taken only when infected with a susceptible bacteria and for IBS it is virtually useless since the major side effect of amoxycillin is diarrhoea. I am surprised you are taking it for one year and I hope you are taking it only intermittently and not on continuous basis because antibiotics can not be and should not be continued for long to prevent the emergence of bacterial resistance. I suggest you to consult a good gastroenterologist.
