Hi there, omnacortil is prescribed to patients with asthama, allergy or many other conditions which may cause heavy breathing. Omnacortil is a steroid and as all steroids go they have certain side effects like Cushing's syndrome and growth retardation in childn; osteoporosis, fractures, Peptic ulceration; glaucoma, cataracts; hyperglycaemia, pancreatitis; increased appetite, obesity. Thinning and atrophy of skin, Rash, allergic reactions, pruritis etc.Potentially Fatal condition like acute adrenal insufficiency precipitated by infection, trauma or surgery in patients on long-term therapy or following cessation of such therapy. A dose of 10 mg for 10-15 days may not cause serious problems and it may be safe to take it if it is giving symptomatic relief to the patient. Care should be taken to not stop the medication abruptly and to taper the dose over a period of time which your physician will do. Please ask your doubts to the attending physician before embarking on any action. Hope its helped. Take care.

Hi,
Your big brother is suffering chronic breathing problem, for which your brother is taking Tab omnacortil 10 mg everytime he gets this breathing problem, continuously for 10 to 15 days. You have not mentioned how frequently your big brother needs to take this medicine.
Prednisone is a synthetic corticosteroid drug that is particularly effective as an immunosuppressant drug. Prednisone is used for many different indications including: asthma, COPD, certain inflammatory diseases (including allergic reactions)
"Long term improper usage" may produce many side effects, few of them are:
Increased blood sugar, Difficulty controlling emotion, Immunosuppression, Weight gain and peptic ulcer
No harm in using then and there. Long term usage or short term usage (like your big brother) - started with heavy dose or mild dose (like your big brother), always the dosage has to be reduced step by step and stopped. The step by step reduction is to stimulate the natural secretion of this steroid whch should have been in a suppressed state. If used for real indication and careful dosage schedule it is a wonderful drug. Avoid the causative factor which stimulates the bronchial asthma. Don't forget that PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE.
Best wishes

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

The side effects depend on the dose and duration - It can lead to adrenal suppression / it can practically affect every system - Pressure and sugar, acne and hirsuitism osteoporosis and Myopathy, ulcer and immuno-suppression - the list is long

It is like a double edged sword / Used properly, it has excellent benefits / with misuse and abuse the risks may outweigh the benefits.

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
