Hello, Cough is of two types one in which their is sputum and other without sputum. If you have sputum then you need to take antibiotics and if cough is more then you can take cough syrups. Steroids are given for symptomatic relief as they decrease the inflammation but if you have cough with sputum then do not use steroids If cough is dry and the cough is barking in nature or severe , then steroids can be taken . It is important to rule out cause of cough before starting steroids. Consult a Chest physician and get doen a Chest X ray.
