Addiction Medicine Specialist Dr. Preeti Parakh's  Response
Hi Deepti,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic!

I understand that you want to know if the Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (RTMS) treatment can help you or not in relieving your anxiety and depression.

There is some evidence to show that RTMS is beneficial in patients with depression who have not benefited from antidepressant medications. However, in my experience, most patients respond to one or the other medications and if not, I prefer to use electroconvulsive therapy which is safe as well as is cheaper and more effective than RTMS.

In your case, if one medicine has not suited you, there are many other medicines that can be tried and this will certainly be cheaper that RTMS. Moreover, since RTMS is a new treatment, relatively less is known about its effectiveness and safety. Like medicines, it also takes a few weeks time for a good response and it is not free from side effects. Secondly, it cannot be predicted how much it will help in your anxiety symptoms, while medications help in both depression and anxiety.

Hence, in my opinion, the best option for you would be to try other medications and find one that suits you better.

Hope this answers your query. Feel free to contact us again if you want any clarifications.

Best wishes.
