Hello and welcome to HCM.
Thank you for your query.
I understand it is troubling for such a distressing condition to last for long, not only for your grandmother, but for her family as well.
Let me try to help by providing some basic information and advise which might help.
First of all, a urine culture examination is an investigation which helps in providing information on the most suitable antibiotic, which will help in treating the condition permanently, provided the antibiotic is prescribed with a sufficient dose and duration. This should be conducted if it hasn't already been done.
Next coming to the recurrent UTI or persisting UTI. This always happens due to some underlying cause, either present constantly or intermittently. In your grandmothers case, being bed-ridden could be the cause, but it is best not to assume and rather investigate thoroughly, ruling out or finding other causes for the persistent UTI.
, frequent urination
are all associated symptoms of a UTI.
The next approach would be to be able to maintain good hygiene for your grandmother as well as a sterile and hygienic way of emptying her bladder through the day. This will prevent the infection to a large extent. Although this can be really difficult, even an effort to improve this state will certainly reduce the incidence of UTI.
I hope I have succeeded in providing information that can help improve the quality of life for your grandmother. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.
