Suffer from panic attacks and anxiety. On beta blockers. Need treatment without medication

Hello I suffer from anxiety , wake up every morning worrying and go to bed worrying which makes me feel sick all day. I have been on beta blockers a few months ago as I was getting bad panic attacks with my anxiety. I am now off them and looking for work, I have had bad news this week which isn t helping my anxiety, so I have been recommended to take kalms, I take 2 tablets 3 times a day. Will these help with my anxiety and is there anything else I can do to help me without going on medication?

Hello victoriafondoulakou
Welcome to Health Care Magic

For anxiety attacks with panic beta blockers are good drugs, but they just lower sympathetic tone and provide only symptomatic relief. The underlying neurochemical imbalance is not taken care by beta blockers. Similarily kalms is a herbal medicine and it is used for just episodic relief.
Currently you are having anxiety throughout the day it is possibility that you have Generalized anxiety disorder. For this you need to visit a good Psychiatrist. There are various treatment options available like-
- Medicines like SSRI and SNRI groups which are highly effective in controlling anxiety.
- Home based methods like Relaxation techniques, Progressive Muscle Relaxation, Deep Breathing Exercises, yoga, meditation etc.
- Behavior therapy by a trained Psychiatrist.

Hope I cleared your doubt.

Psychiatrist Dr. Jonas Sundarakumar's  Response
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

Kalms tablets are herbal medication claimed to have sedative and stress relieving properties. Such pills are medically unproven and unapproved for the treatment of anxiety disorders. Beta blockes are medication which sre often used in small doses to contol the physical manifestations of anxiety.

Since you say that your anxiety and panic attacks are quite distressing and disabling, it would be worthwhile having a consultation with a psychiatrist to have a detailed evaluation and plan further treatment. If you are not inclined to taking medication, then there are effective psychological therapies like CBT or relaxation therapies which can help you deal with your anxiety.

Wish you all the best.
