Suffer From Constipation. Diagnosed With Ulcerative Colitis. Is Colectomy The Only Option?

10 years ago I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis after having a severe flare-up...it was under control after 6 months of being on steroids. For the past 3-4 years, I have been having SEVERE constipation- no one believed that it was as serious as I was making it to be until I went to the University of Michigan and the Dr I saw was "perplexed" because of the rarity of remission with Ulcerative Colitis....My hometown Dr had diagnosed me with colonic inertia around a month before going to the university hospital. My Dr has had me get xrays, blood work, colonic transit tests, and an anorectal manometry, which I am waiting for the results. I also have an extensive family history of colon cancer in my family along with the cancer gene- Lynch Syndrome (I don't remember exactly what the gene's specific name is) I was just tested and am waiting to find out if I do have the gene- both siblings and all cousins have tested positive. I have done a lot of research about what I should do....and feel as though a colectomy is what is right for me....I am so totally miserable living like this and want to get things figured out. I have a 3 year old and don't feel like I am able to be active like I should and WANT to. I am HORRIBLY distended, always EXHAUSTED, and as of recently I haven't been able to eat much because I throw up if I eat--and when I do eat, it's not even a "regular" amount of food. So....my question is....what do you think about the surgery?

1. Your Doctor in charge is in better position to look and solve the problem, while in Ayurveda what we can do is that Ulcerative colitis is an Immune system disease so you can take Rasayan chikitsa (Immunomodulation) after consulting Ayurveda Physician there.
