Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Your child is having gastroenteritis.

The mainstay of treatment is to maintain hydration and to monitor the hydration of the child.

Maintain her hydration by giving sips of oral rehydration solutions like Walyte, coconut water, and lemon water.

Monitor her hydration by activity, urine output, skin turgor, and tongue moisture.

Don't give any self and unprescribed medication.

Consult your Pediatrician for the assessment of the child and for medication.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.

General & Family Physician Dr. Nsah Bernard's  Response
Hello Punyacharu,

Thanks for posting on HCM,

If your daughter is having loose stools for a few days, then she is suffering from gastroenteritis (most probably of viral cause but could also be of other cause such as bacteria, fungi, metabolic etc). Most of the treatment offered to your daughter are supportive probiotics and rehydration therapies and non to treat the cause. If there is another cause involved (other than viral) then it needs to be investigated with a stool exams +/- culture and blood test and possibly consult first with a pediatrician or primary care doctor. You should watch out for the serious complication of gastroenteritis which is dehydration. Rehydrate your daughter properly and get her examined by a doctor.

Hope this helps
