Sudden Vaginal Bleeding. On Implanon. Had Thrush In The Past. Reason?

I've been on the implant nexplanon for 2 years now and I've suddenly started having periods, I've never bled on this implant or the last one at all, but 2 months ago I had thrush then I was spotting and my breasts were tender and my nipples were sore, I also had cramping, I've just got another period but no thrush. I'm just worried that my implant is not as effective now, can you help?

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

Many women experience an irregular bleed, which last for a long duration, or that can occur frequently. This is considered one of the side effects of the product (implanon/nexplanon). This is also one of the most common reasons for discontinuation of the implant.

I would advise you to re-visit your prescribing doctor, who will be able to analyze and decide on the effectivity of the implant. Implanon/nexplanon has a very low failure rate of 0.5 %. Which makes it highly unlikely for this implant to serve against its purpose, for at least 3 years of its life. Please re-visit your doctor, who will surely reassure you about its efficacy.

As you have a history of a recent infection, the bleed could be attributed to that as well. Although you report no symptoms of the infection now, and feel you are completely rid of it, we will have to make sure. This can be done only by a physical examination, conducted by a doctor. Wishing you lots of luck.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-shoaib-khan/64581 . I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
