Sudden Cold Sweat, Chills, Trembling Knees After Taking Diuretic For Elevated BP And Headache. What Could Be The Reason?

Hello, my father recently started having headaches that didn t seem to go away with Panadol so we decided to check his blood pressure and it was 160/85 he is 53 years old and never had high blood pressure that stayed for days, he asked a pharmacist and he gave him a diuretic, after a couple of hours his blood pressure was normal, and went to sleep after 2 hours he woke up with a cold sweat and chills and felt trembling in his knees. May I know what might be the cause of this?

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Initially your father took panadol for headache i.e.analgesic ( paracetamol).
There after he took diuretic .
Analgesic reduce natriuretic action of diuretic and this is the main reason of symptoms of your father.
Diuretic causes fluid & electrolyte imbalance, dizziness ,blurred vision .
Due to hypotension ( caused by diuretic action ) there was trembling and dizziness.
Cold sweats were due to electrolyte imbalance .
Plenty of water with salts and minerals help in this type of cases.
In my opinion consult a physician and get his help .
Self medication is very dangerous.
Good luck.
