Sudden Blinking, Twitching In Eyes. Feels Uncomfortable, Affects Socializing. Cure?

Hello
Since as long as I can remember, I have had times when I can not stop blinking/twitching. It is hard to keep my eyes opened without doing so. I do not know if it is from dry eyes, from bad habit, both, or something else. This usually comes on and off, and makes it very uncomfortable for me to talk with others, as it gets in the way of my socialization and comfort. If you can please let me know a healthy way to cure this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

Hi..
Welcome to HCM and thanks for the query..
It could blepharospasm where there is involuntary closure of eye lids because of excessive action of ocular muscles..
If it is that severe you go for botox injections. The effect of these injections is temporary ie for 6 months later you have to go for one more dose..
Botox injections cause temporary paralysis of muscles..
In the meanwhile you can use lubricating eye drops for relief..
Hope your query is answered.. Take care...

Ophthalmologist Dr. Dadapeer K's  Response
Hello,
Sudden blinking and twitching in the eyes is because of affection of the facial nerve. Please look for any problem within the eyes like redness, watering, discharge from the eyes. If none of the eye problem is there need to consult physician to look for any other systemic cause and treatment accordingly.
Most of the times no underlying specific cause will be there and in these instances treatment of the symptoms is by cold compress and other drugs.
If it wont respond then treatment by injections like Botox into the facial nerve can offer relief from symptoms.
Please do consult your physician he will be able to guide further depending on the examination findings.
Thank you
