Stomach Cramps, Diarrhoea At Night On Eating Wheat Rice, Tortilla. Food Allergy?
10 yr old daughter gets stomach cramps , gurgling and bad diahrrea approx once a week or every 2 weeks. always and only at night - seems that white rice or tortilla may be common denominator. She s fine by next morning. Her dad has had similar stomach issues his entire life. Both are thin but otherwise healthy. Could white rice be the culprit?
Hello,
Wheat intolerance is a possibility but there are no blood tests to prove this.
What must be definitely excluded is gluten intolerance or coeliac disease in both your husband and daughter. Coeliac disease is due to an intense immunological reaction to ingested glutens and gliadins in wheat, barley, oats and rye that can be diagnosed using a blood test (IgA-TTG or antiendomysial antibody). Duodenal biopsy is also done if blood tests do not confirm and the suspicion is high. However, one must be on a normal wheat diet for the tests to pick up this condition.
Thanks.
