Started With Cramp On Calf Muscle. Felt Numb & Couldn't Walk. DVT Negative. Now Whole Leg Is Aching, Numb. Suggestions?

49 yr old male started with cramp on calf muscle of right leg, numbness was so bad when walking, coiuldn/t hold my weight, same week went to A+E as I thought It may be DVT but turned out to be negative. A year later worst than before that whole leg aching with numbness that it gave me a limp for 2 days now, where the numbness is more pronounced on the right hand side of the hip, forcing myself to walk after taking painkillers has alievaited the numbness somewhat but on sitting or remaining motionless for 15mins the numbness increased. should I go to an A + E now or shall I still continue to see if it was just a trapped nerve and persist in massarging the leg. Thank you for your time on this

Hello,
Thanks for writing in.
Its clear that you had a similar problem last year and took treatment for the same. Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) was also ruled out at that time.
May I let you know that DVT is one of the diseases affecting the limbs. There can be other reasons like TAO and limb ischemia (decreased blood supply to your leg) which is responsible for your problem. There may be contributing factors like smoking which could also be responsible.
I would suggest you to meet a surgeon and get Arterial and Venous Doppler scans of your leg after being examined by your doctor. If these also are normal then a neurology examination and X ray of your pelvis may be required.
Hope this helps.
