Spotting, Altered Periods After A Medical Abortion. Is It Normal?

Hi, I had a medical abortion 2.5 months ago and bled for 7 days after. I then had a normal period less than a month after i stopped bleeding and then 20 days after the normal period stopped i am now spotting agian but it s not period. It s thick dark brown vaginal discharge(just on the tissue paper) and today s the 5th day. Is that normal? I m a bit worried.

Hello,
thanks for using health care magic

Spotting is not an uncommon symptom in females.
However, though it might be just an alteration in hormonal
levels occuring occasionally during the menstrual cycle or
due to a pregnancy, it could as well indicate a potentially
severe condition such as pelvic inflammatory diseases or
an ectopic pregnancy.

The first thing to do will be to rule out a pregnancy by doing
a home pregnancy test with early morning urine. If its positive
then you will have to do an ultrasound ( endovaginal most probably)
to get the location of the pregnancy. If the test is negative, then it is
likely an occasional issue; you might want to observe for a while and if it
persist then you meet your gynecologist.

Best regards
Dr Achuo
