Spongy Lump Above Ear, Hurts To Touch, Hurts To Open Mouth. What Could This Be?
Hi doctor, Today I noticed a minor spongy lump right above my ear on my scalp , temporal area. Wen I touch it it hurts. Also, when I open my mouth it hurts. I m very worried. What could this be? My ears are kind of clogged and it pops. The ent doctor looked in my ear and said its dry and said I should take allergy medication . I truly appreciate your help.
First of all let me tell you that many of my patients have the kind of swelling you mentioned without any problems whatsoever. And they usually disappear in a week or two.
But any mass or swelling has to be properly examined by the ENT and only then we can be perfectly sure that you are fine.
So consult another ENT, ask for a proper examination and maybe request for a FNAC or biopsy to confirm the diagnosis
If needed then start a course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory medications as a first attempt to reduce the swelling in consultation with the doctor
Also get your ears examined and maybe tested with audiometry to get a proper diagnosis of your popping problem
Remember that even scalp or skin lesions can cause lumps like this so consult your dermatologist also
take care and get well soon
