Sore throat, paining while sticking out tongue. Any ideas?

My lower throat has been sore off and on for about two weeks now. It hurts on one side or the other of my larynx, with the pain moving. One day it may hurt on the right side, while another day the right side is fine and the left side is sore. It also hurts (mildly) to stick my tongue out very far. Any ideas about this? It started a couple of weeks ago when I had a viral respiratory infection that included a very sore throat in that same area.
