Sore Throat, Pain On Swallowing, White Spot Near Left Tonsils, Visible Epiglottis. Cause Of Worry?
I am a 20 year old female. The last few nights i have had a dry and sore throat when i wake up. today my throat pain has lasted though the day and even drinking water does not help. It is a little uncomfortable to swallow . I looked at the back of my throat and there is a white spot next to my left tonsil and my epiglottis is visible and white. Should i be worried about this? if yes how urgent or serious of an issue is this?
The whitish spots may be the tonsillolith or tonsil stones which are collections over and inside the tonsils in areas called the crypts. These are harmless and self limiting which gets better over time with medications and general measures. They may also be infected pus which can happen in infections of the tonsils. In any case you need to consult an ENT to get to a proper diagnosis
If your pain is more you can consider taking injectables for better symptom control in consultation with your ENT
However if the symptoms are recurring and since you are getting recurrent such lesions it is advisable that you consult an ENT who may advice treatment which can be in the lines of medication or even removal of tonsil which can cure the problem
get well soon
take only warm fluids and do salt water gargle
