Sore Throat, Cold And Enlarged Left Tonsil. Could This Be Tonsillitis?

I have a sore throat and cold, actually flu like symptons, but I have noticed for a couple of months that my left tonsil is getting bigger. I had trouble with tonsilitis frequently and up until I got in my forties. What do you think it is, and i do not have any medical insurane until 01/01/14.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Tonsillar enlargement most commonly occurs as a result of infection either viral or bacterial.
It can also occur as a result of chronic inflammation of the tonsills ( for example persons with allergies) and cancer.

It would be best to visit your doctor for an evaluation. If he confirms that there is enlargement then he may refer you to an ENT specialist.

I hope this helps
