Again he had epilepsy at his 16 years age while attending his 10 the public exam. This time he had sevear one side headache after the
epilepsy. He was admitted in hospital MRI CT ECG HAVE BEEN TAKEN 2ND TIME. All are normal. Now he was advised to take valparin chrono 500mg 2 times a day. Sir pls clarify the following. Hi.
Thanks for asking in Healthcare Magic.

Drugs used in epilepsy suppress seizures but do not cure them although the intensity of the disorder may reduce after years of successful control. The drugs prevent seizure with an acceptable level of side effects. So, they should be continued except in selected persons in whom if factors are favourable the drug can be withdrawn.

There are many triggers for seizure. Reading, flashing lights, stress, lack of sleep, emotional upset, heat, infection, trauma or tumors in brain can all trigger epilepsy. The epileptogenic focus or spot in brain has a low threshold for seizure susceptibility and the triggering factor varies for each individual. Whenever this focus is triggered it results in fits. Yes both video game and exam tension can trigger epilepsy.

Valparin Chrono is Divalproex. It is given in many types of epilepsy. It can result in abdominal cramps, loss of appetite, diarrhea, hair loss, mood changes, weight loss or gain and liver problems. It is necessary to monitor liver enzymes like AST and ALT every three months when he is on Divalproex.

He will need either a prolonged therapy or treatment for at least 3 years after the last seizure. Stopping the drug depends upon his progress and will be decided by his treating Dr.

I hope this is useful to you.
