Snapping And Bending Of Knee Due To Fall. History Of Dislocated Kneecap. Swollen Knee. Suggested No Surgery Required If Tendons Are Snapped. Normal?

hello, I have had a dislocated kneecap 6 weeks ago, but yesterday I slipped on the stairs, and my weak leg couldn't hold it, so my knee bent around 120° and I heard/felt something snap. My knee is swollen to about 3 times its size and I went to the hospital and have an appointment for an MRI scan. The doctor told me that even if one of my tendons are snapped, they might not need to perform surgery to fix it because I could train my knee to do without it. Is this normal and what would your advice be? also, is there anything I could do against the swelling? I already use ice to numb the pain a bit as well as paracetamol. Is there something else I could ask them give me against the pain?

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
In your case, MRI scan is necessary to detect the damaged tendon and the extent of damage your soft tissues of the knee have suffered. In majority of cases, a surgical treatment is required as the injury is extensive.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. You can consult me again directly through my profile URL http://bit.ly/Dr-Praveen-Tayal
