yes , you are right. smoking
can pose risks during anaesthesia if they have COPD/ smoker's lungs.
risks are higher in emergency unprepared cases.
in elective case like his, risks can be minimised like with respiratory optimisation pre-op.
the d treating team can do that and with modern anaesthesia, they are manageable.
so do not worry much.
optimise chest and go ahead if necessary . pl. remind anaesthesiologist and surgeon about this preop.
