Smoker, Have Noticed Unusual Smell Lingering On The Body After Using Hand Sanitizer, Body Spray Post Smoking. Cause?

Yes I am a female and also a smoker. i have very good hygeine in which I bath daily and brush at least twice a day. I have noticed though that after smoking and using hand sanitizer and or body spray that I smell some unfimiliar smell that lingers. I don t know what to do. Could it be the smoke coming out of my pores? I work in an office with someone and I have occasionally seen her spray spray and its very offensive especially when I know that I am a very clean person. Whay do I smell?

Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

Though smoking can result in foul odours from the mouth, it is not possible for smoke to come out through the pores of your skin after smoking. A perception of foul odour from the body can be due to a variety of causes - both medical as well as psychological. Often a psychological problem called "olfactory reference syndrome" could be the underlying cause when a person becomes excessively preoccupied and believes that he / she is smelling bad to others.

Since you seem to be quite distressed about this problem, and are having problems at your workplace also, I would suggest that you see a doctor for a detailed evaluation and further management.

Wish you all the best.
