Smelling Gas Even If Not Around Any Gas Source. What Could This Be ?

I keep smelling gas even if I am not around a gas source (eg, in my house - i have electric stove etc, on the street, at uni etc…). At first I thought I was stumbling gas leaks and let the city gas depot know to come and investigate, but now realise I am smelling it when there are no gas facilities around. What could this be? With thanks, AAAA

Dear
Welcome to HCM
We understnd your concerns

I read your problem descriptions and am quite sure that I should be able clear your doubts.

We understand things through five of our senses namely eye, ear, nose, tongue and skin. These senses get the so called ability to understand what we feel or see or hear or smell through some previous inputs already stored in the brain. We see a chair and we understand that it is a chair because brain have a previously understood notion or picture of chair stored. Got it.

Sometimes, such perception might get a bit confusing due to ome neurological deficiency and we will be unble to decipher what se feel or see etc. And we start seeing what we saw earlier, repeatedly or what we smelt earlier repeatedly. This is one type of delusion or if it follows a same pattern can be OCD also.

For the time being learn to ignore the cue and live normally. After some days the cue should die down. Just don't be serious or anxious about it.
Wait for some days and if the problem persists, do consult a psychologist first and then if required a psychiatrist.

Hope I am able to clarify your doubts. Available for further queries.
Good luck.
